When someone searches for a service “near me”, Google shows a map with three businesses. That local 3-pack gets a large share of clicks. This guide shows you how to get in.
Step 1: create or claim your profile
Go to business.google.com with a business Google account. Search for your business: if it exists, claim it; if not, create it with your real name, without stuffing keywords.
Step 2: verify your business
Google may ask for video, phone, email or postcard verification. Video is the most common today: show your signage, your location and a document with the address.
Step 3: complete 100% of the profile
- A specific primary category plus secondary ones.
- Hours, including holidays.
- Services with descriptions and starting prices.
- Attributes (parking, accessibility, payments).
- Website link and messaging.
Step 4: photos that sell
Upload at least 10 real photos: storefront, interior, team and work. Profiles with photos get more direction requests and more website clicks.
Step 5: a review system
Create your short review link and send it after every job. A QR code at the counter or on the receipt works great. Reply to every review, including negative ones, calmly and with a solution.
Replying to reviews shows Google and future customers that your business is active and cares.
Step 6: post every week
Google posts (offers, updates, events) keep your profile active. One a week is enough.
Mistakes that can get you suspended
- Adding keywords to your business name.
- Using a virtual office or coworking address.
- Creating duplicate profiles.
- Buying reviews.
